Adolescence is a time of significant emotional, personal and social change. During these years, young people develop their identity, form new relationships and face challenges involving independence, self-esteem, academic performance and the future. The pace and intensity of these changes can be difficult for many teenagers to manage.
Some teenagers feel overwhelmed by intense emotions, relationship difficulties or academic pressure. Emotional difficulties may then emerge, often showing up in their behaviour or mood.
At our psychology centre, we offer guidance and therapy for teenagers. We build a trusting relationship so they can express themselves freely, understand what they are going through and develop the personal resources to navigate this stage of life. When needed, we work closely with families while respecting the young person’s confidentiality.
A place where teenagers can speak without fear of being judged.
We involve parents with the teenager’s agreement and respect for their privacy.
Emotional skills they can draw on throughout life.
Depending on the teenager’s age and the goals of therapy, the first session is held with the teenager or with their parents.
We create a plan suited to the teenager’s difficulties, age and individual needs. We may work with the young person individually, with their parents, or with both in a coordinated way. If a teenager does not want to attend, we can sometimes work indirectly by offering the family specific guidance.
We keep parents informed about progress, with the teenager’s knowledge and agreement. When necessary, we also coordinate with their school.
Our approach to adolescent psychology in Barcelona considers the young person’s personal life alongside their family and academic environment. These are the main areas we work with:
If you are unsure whether your teenager would benefit from seeing a psychologist in Barcelona, get in touch. There is no obligation.
Therapy helps young people address the specific difficulty that brought them to us. It also helps them understand themselves better, manage their emotions and build healthier relationships with their family and peers.
Parents’ involvement is essential, with the teenager’s agreement and respect for their confidentiality.
It is advisable to consult a psychologist for teenagers if your child shows persistent changes in mood, withdraws socially, experiences a sudden drop in school performance, or has anxiety, difficulty sleeping or changes in behaviour.
They do not need to feel fully ready from the start. It is common for teenagers to come to the first session feeling reluctant or sceptical. An initial conversation in a welcoming, non-judgemental setting can help them feel comfortable and begin to open up.
It depends on the nature of the difficulty, the teenager’s age and the goals of therapy. During the initial assessment session at our psychology centre, we discuss a suitable frequency and estimated duration with the family.
Confidentiality is essential for teenagers to feel safe and trust their therapist. At the same time, we stay in contact with parents and find the best way to work together while respecting the young person’s privacy.
